Rostov-Suzdal Principality

a Russian principality that was formed in the tenth century on the territory between the Volga and Kliaz’ma rivers. At first, Rostov was the principality’s capital, but in the second quarter of the 12th century it was replaced by Suzdal’. In 1157, Andrei Bogoliubskii transferred the capital to Vladimir, and the principality then became known as the Vladimir-Suzdal’ principality (seeVLADIMIR-SUZDAL’ PRINCIPALITY).
