Semiconductor Spectrometer

 

a device for measuring various characteristics of nuclear radiations and elementary particles; its main element is a semiconductor detector. Semiconductor spectrometers are used, for example, to measure spectra and integral radiant fluxes and to isolate nuclear reactions of a certain kind. Multichannel analyzers and electronic computers generally constitute the terminal part of a semiconductor spectrometer. In order to achieve high energy resolution, semiconductor spectrometers and preamplifiers are cooled by being placed in a cryostat.
