Prague Groschen

Prague Groschen

(from the Czech groŝ), a silver coin issued in Bohemia from the early 14th to the mid-16th century, with brief interruptions. Originally it was valued against the Prague mark, which weighed 253.24 g and from which 60 groschen were minted. The Prague groschen was gradually degraded; its weight decreased, as did the amount of pure silver it contained. The Prague groschen was also widely used in Germany, Poland, the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, and the Tver’ Principality.
