Semen Zakharov
Zakharov, Semen Egorovich
Born Jan. 10 (23), 1906, in the village of Stolpovo, present-day Zaraisk Raion, Moscow Oblast. Soviet military commander; admiral (1966). Member of the CPSU since 1926.
Zakharov has been in the Soviet armed forces since 1932. He graduated from the Borisoglebsk School for Military Pilots and from the Lenin Military Political Academy in 1938. He was a member of the military council of the Pacific Fleet from March 1939 to November 1948. He graduated from the Voroshilov Higher Military Academy in 1950. Zakharov held a responsible position in the Ministry of the Navy of the USSR from 1950 to 1953 and managerial positions in the Main Political Directorate and the Main Directorate of Cadres of the Ministry of Defense of the USSR from 1953 to 1959. He was deputy chief of naval educational institutions from 1959 to 1969. He has been in the reserves since 1969. He has been awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Red Banner, the Order of Ushakov First Class, three Orders of the Red Star, the Order of the Badge of Honor, and various medals.
