Partiinaia Zhizn’

 

(Party Life), a fortnightly journal of the Central Committee of the CPSU. It was founded in 1919 according to a resolution of the Eighth Congress of the Communist Party. From 1919 to 1929 it was published under the name Izvestiia TsK RKP(b) [from 1926, Izvestiia TsK VKP(b)], and from 1929 to 1946 under the name Partiinoe stroitel’stvo. In 1946 it was given the name Partiinaia zhizn’. From April 1948 through April 1954 it was not published.

Partiinaia zhizn’ propagandizes the policies of the Communist Party and the Soviet government and deals with topical questions of party construction. It promotes the development of intra-party democracy, the strengthening of party discipline, and the establishment of a scientific approach in the work of party organizations. The journal reflects the struggle of the CPSU and other fraternal parties to strengthen the world socialist system and the unity of the international communist and workers’ movement.

The journal publishes the decisions of the Central Committee of the CPSU and materials on current problems in the theory and practice of party construction. It acquaints readers with party management of the economy, the organizational and ideological work of party committees, and primary party organizations. It carries articles, dispatches, essays, reviews, surveys, advice columns by specialists, letters from communists, and answers to readers’ questions. It is intended for party workers, a wide group of party activists, the secretaries of primary party organizations, party-group organizers, and others. Circulation, more than 1 million (1977).
