a city in southeastern Brazil, in Minas Gerais State. Population, 57,600 (1970). A railroad station and highway junction, Poços de Caldas is a center for the mining of bauxites and of uranium and thorium ores. An ore-enrichment plant with a capacity of 200 tons of uranium concentrates per year is under construction (1975). Poços de Caldas also has enterprises that process agricultural raw materials and produce alumina.
