sub-regional centre sub-regional centre A new type of UK hospital, which was spurred in part by the Darzi reports, and serves a population of a million or more. Sub-regional centres are thus bigger than district general hospitals (DGHs), and while they are smaller than traditional teaching hospitals, they often have important roles in teaching and research and provide a range of sub-specialty services beyond the range of standard DGHs. |
