Volatile Substance Abuse


A specific form of substance abuse that encompasses any inhalant which can evoke the desired 'high'. Inhalants include adhesives (which contain toluene and xylene), aerosol sprays (butane, halons), lighter fluid (butane), dry cleaning and stain removers (trichloroethylene, tetrachloroethylene), paint thinners, typewriter correction ('white-out') fluids, nail varnish remover (acetone), amyl nitrate, etc.
