Sorsa, Taisto Kalevi
Born Dec. 12, 1930, in Keuruu. Finnish state and political figure.
In 1957, Sorsa graduated from the School of Social Sciences in Tampere with a degree in journalism. Between 1954 and 1959 he worked as a journalist and held editorial positions with publications of the Social Democratic Party of Finland. He was affiliated with UNESCO from 1959 to 1965 and served as secretary-general of the Finnish UNESCO committee from 1965 to 1969. He was secretary of the Social Democratic Party of Finland from 1969 to 1975, when he became the party’s chairman. First elected to Parliament in 1970, Sorsa served as minister for foreign affairs in 1972 and as prime minister from September 1972 to November 1975 and from May 1977 to May 1979.
