Slovak Reconstruction, Party of
(Strana Slovenskej Obrody), a political party in Czechoslovakia. The party was created in March 1948 by progressives opposed to the reactionary leadership of the Slovak Democratic Party, which had collapsed after the workers’ victory over reaction in February 1948. The party unites a small number of urban and rural workers in Slovakia. Operating within the Slovak Socialist Republic, it forms part of the National Front of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic. It supports the program for constructing socialism and recognizes the leading role of the Communist Party of Czechoslovakia. The party has representatives in the Federal Assembly of the Czechoslovak Socialist Republic and the national state bodies of Slovakia. It publishes the newspaper L ‘ud.
