(Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro), 1985–, Portuguese soccer player. A forward, he began professional play in 2001 with Sporting Portugal. With Manchester United from 2003, he helped them win the Football Association Challenge Cup (2004), the UEFA Champions League (2008), the FIFA Club World Cup (2008), and three Premier League titles (2007–9). Ronaldo scored 118 goals in 292 games while with Man United, with 84 goals in Premier League matches. In 2009 Ronaldo went to Real Madrid, where he helped them win the La Liga title (2012, 2017), the FIFA Club World Cup (2014, 2016), and the UEFA Champions League (2014, 2016–18) and became their all-time leading scorer, with 311 goals in La Liga matches and 450 goals overall. He moved to Turin's Juventus in 2018. Ronaldo also is the all-time leading scorer in the Champions League. In 2016 he also captained Portugal's national team to its first UEFA European Championship. He has won the Ballon d'Or (2008, 2016–17), FIFA World Player of the Year (2008), Premier League Golden Boot (2008), FIFA Ballon d'Or (2013–14), and Best FIFA Men's Player (2017). In 2018 he was convicted of tax fraud in Spain for not declaring earnings from advertising contracts.
