Tuscan Apennines

(Appennino Tosco-Emiliano), a part of the Northern Apennines bounded by the passes of La Cisa and Bocea Trabaría. The Tuscan Apennines are 215 km long and reach an elevation of 2,165 m (Monte Cimone). The peaks are composed predominantly of limestones; the slopes consist of sandstones, schistose rocks, and conglomerates. The northeastern foothills are composed of flysch. The mountains form a series of echelon-like ranges with gentle northeastern and steep southwestern slopes. The slopes are covered with broad-leaved and mixed forests.
