The currency of Romania. It was issued in 1867 and was pegged to silver and gold until 1878, when the peg shifted exclusively to gold. The peg was dropped in 1914. Revaluations occurred twice during the Communist era in Romania to enhance collectivist goals. In 2005, a third revaluation occurred following a period of high inflation.
