a breed of rabbits raised for their meat and fur, originally bred in Austria in the 19th century. They acclimatize easily. The length of the body is as much as 56 cm; the average weight is 4.5 kg and as much as 5 kg on the .best farms. The fur is blue-gray. The female bears six to eight young in each litter. The meat yield is average, the dressed weight being about 58 percent. The skin is almost always used as an imitation of more valuable furs, rather than in its natural form. The breed is widely distributed in Europe, including the USSR.
