Romanche Gap

(Romanche Deep), a deepwater trench in the Atlantic Ocean, located at the equator within a transform fault of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. The maximum depth is 7,758 m. The trench is named for the French ship Romanche, which took the first depth measurements here in 1883.
