Sloan, Eric

Sloan, Eric (b. Everard Jean Hinrichs)

(1905–85) illustrator, painter, author; born in New York City. He studied at the Art Students League, New York, under John Sloan (1930s), whose last name he appropriated. Based in Cornwall, Conn. and, later, in Santa Fe, N.M., he became an expert on everything from agriculture to weather while writing and illustrating books on early American artifacts, such as The ABC Book of Early Americana (1963), and I Remember America (1971).
