[′ver·ē·ə·bəl ¦band‚width ‚fil·tər] (electronics) An electric filter whose upper and lower cutoff frequencies may be independently selected, so that almost any bandwidth may be obtained; it usually consists of several stages of RC filters, each separated by buffer amplifiers; tuning is accomplished by varying the resistance and capacitance values.
