Roll-Turning Lathe

Roll-Turning Lathe

a specialized machine tool used to machine cylindrical and shaped rolls for rolling mills with diameters from 350 to 1,600 mm and lengths from 3,000 to 8,000 mm, and also the drying cylinders for papermaking machines, calenders, and the like. In contrast to the ordinary turning lathe, a roll-turning lathe may have two or more carriages with one-sided or two-sided cutter heads and whatever number of steady rests are necessary to support the workpiece along its length. These lathes are equipped with mechanisms for quickly shifting the carriages, a widerange continuous feed, a copy-turning attachment, and remote control.
