Rolls razor

Rolls razor

A razor introduced in the 1920s that had the hoe design of a safety razor, but was really only a single-edge blade and a handle that could be clamped onto the blade. However, the blade did not have as much protective shielding as a typical safety razor, and shaving with a Rolls required about as much care as when using a straight razor. The protection it did have prevented deep cuts, but not shallow ones. The main advantage of the Rolls was that it came in a storage box that incorporated a blade sharpening mechanism consisting of an integral Whetstone, Strop, and track with a blade holder. The blade holder positioned the blade at an optimum angle for sharpening, and also reversed the side of the blade presented to the stone or strop, as the blade and its holder were pushed back and forth along the track. Using the sharpening feature, a single blade could be sharpened and used many times.
