R0033550 (rä′mo͝os-ôr′tä), José Born 1949. East Timorese resistance leader and politician. An exiled spokesman for the liberation of East Timor from Indonesia, he shared the 1996 Nobel Peace Prize with Carlos Felipe Ximenes Belo. In 2007, he took office as East Timor's president.
