TrichiuridaeTrichiuridae[‚trik·ē′yu̇r·ə‚dē]Trichiuridaea family of fish of the order Percomorphi. The trichiuridae is elongated and greatly compressed laterally, with a dull silvery coloring reminiscent of a saber. The rear portion of the body is very thin and turns into a thread. The fish has a large mouth with large teeth. There are eight species, found in warm and temperate seas. The trichiuridae feeds on other fish. The species Trichiurus lepturus is found along European and American seashores; the cutlass fish (Trichiurus japonicus), which is found along Asian shores and near Vladivostok in the autumn, has commerical value.
