Self-Adaptive System

Self-Adaptive System

an automatic control system that preserves its operational capability under conditions of unforeseen change in the properties of the controlled system, in the control goal, or in the environment by changing its operation algorithm or searching for optimal states. All living organisms have a highly developed capacity for adaptation (seeADAPTATION). Many present-day automatic control systems also have certain adaptation and self-optimization capabilities. Depending on the methods of adaptation used, self-adaptive systems are classified as self-aligning, self-learning, and self-or-ganizing systems. As of 1975, self-aligning systems were the most widely used.
