Lake Torrens, the second-largest lake in Australia after Lake Eyre North, is located in a tectonic basin west of the Flinders Ranges. The area of the lake varies significantly with the seasons; after the winter rains it covers as much as 5,700 sq km, while in summer it almost completely dries up and is encrusted with salt. |
