Tagil

 

a river in Sverdlovsk Oblast, RSFSR, a right tributary of the Tura River of the basin of the Tobol and Ob’ rivers. The Tagil is 414 km long and drains an area of 10,100 sq km. It originates on the eastern slope of the Central Urals. The upper Tagil has rapids, and the lower Tagil follows a meandering course. The river is fed primarily by snow. The annual range of fluctuation in the level is 3.3 m, and the mean flow rate is 40 cu m per sec. The Tagil freezes in early November, and the ice breaks up in the second half of April. The Verkhnii Tagil and Nizhnii Tagil reservoirs and the cities of Verkhnii Tagil and Nizhnii Tagil are located on the river.
