Selection Station

Selection Station

a research organization engaged in the introduction of new crop varieties and hybrids, in seed production, and in the improvement of methods for growing varieties. Most of the selection stations in the USSR were reorganized between the I950’s and 1970’s into oblast (zonal) and branch agricultural experimental stations, which, in addition to making recommendations concerning agricultural practices in an oblast (zone), do a great deal of selection work. Some of them are part of breeding institutes, for example, the Gribovo Experimental Vegetable-selection Station and the Mironovka Experimental Selection Station.
