Ramazan Borukaev
Borukaev, Ramazan Aslanbekovich
Born Jan. 12 (24), 1899, in the village of Zil’gi, northern Ossetia; died July 9, 1967, in Alma-Ata. Soviet geologist; Academician of the Academy of Sciences (AN) of the Kazakh SSR (1954). Member of the CPSU since 1931.
In 1931, Borukaev graduated from the Leningrad Mining Institute. He began working in the institutions of the Kazakh branch of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in 1938; he became secretary-academician of the mineral resources division and a member of the presidium of the AN of the Kazakh SSR in 1954. His basic works deal with regional geology —for example, stratigraphic geojogy, tectonics, and volcan-ology—and the compilation of maps of metal resources. Borukaev received the Lenin Prize (1958), the Order of the Red Star, and a medal.
