Parasitic Cones

Parasitic Cones

formations that occur on the slopes of a volcano when lava is extruded through lateral cracks. Often resembling real volcanic cones, they are composed of loose volcanic products or lava, or a combination of the two. The number of parasitic cones may be quite large. For example, there are about 900 in 266 groups on the slopes of Mount Etna and about 300 on the slopes of the Kliuchevskaia group of volcanoes.
