Taforalt

Taforalt

a grotto in the Beni-Snassen mountain massif, 55 km northwest of Oujda, Morocco. More than 30 burial sites were excavated here between 1951 and 1955; the burials are of the Upper Paleolithic Ibero-Maurusian culture, and their absolute age is between 10,000 and 12,000 years. Skeletal remains were found of almost 200 individuals of both sexes and of varying age. The people of Taforalt were anthropologically similar to some European inhabitants of the late Upper Paleolithic period.
