Spurling maneuver, Spurling test (spŭrl′ing) Extending the patient's neck, moving the head to the affected side, and applying an axial load to the cervical spine to determine if symptoms of paresthesia or pain intensify. The maneuver is used in the physical assessment of patients with possible cervical nerve root compression. This test is not performed until the possibility of a cervical spine fracture or dislocation has been ruled out. |
