AXL

A gene on chromosome 19q13.1 that encodes a receptor tyrosine kinase with a unique extracellular region that juxtaposes IgL and FNIII repeats, transducing signals from the extracellular matrix into the cytoplasm by binding growth factors (e.g., vitamin K-dependent protein growth-arrest-specific gene 6 (GAS6)). AXL is involved in stimulating cell proliferation and mediating cell aggregation by homophilic binding.
