Roig de Leuchsenring, Emilio
Born Aug. 23, 1889, in Havana; died there Aug. 8, 1964. Cuban historian and publicist.
Leuchsenring graduated from the law faculty of the University of Havana. From 1913 to 1917 and from 1923 to 1933 he was editor of the magazines Revista de derecho and Revista social. From 1927 to 1930 and from 1935 to 1964 he was the historiographer of Havana. Leuchsenring headed the Historical Library and Museum and Municipal Historical Archives of Havana. He was a member of the Academy of Cuban History. In 1940 he founded the Cuban Society for Historical and International Research.
Leuchsenring’s principal works exposed the policies of enslavement, exploitation, and violence practiced by the USA in Cuba and contributed to the establishment of a progressive national science of history.
