Potassium Fluoride, Kf

Potassium Fluoride, Kf

a salt; colorless transparent crystals. Deliquescent in air. Density, 2.505 g/cm3; melting point, 857°C. Solubility, 92.3 g per 100 g H2O at 18°C.

Potassium fluoride is obtained by dissolving KOH or K2SO3 in hydrofluoric acid, HF. It is used in the preparation of acid-resistant cements and as a reagent in the fluorination of organic compounds. Acid-salts, or hydro fluorides, are easily fusible crystalline substances that are used as electrolytes in the preparation of elementary fluorine.
