United States Customs Service

An agency of the Treasury Department charged with enforcing laws relative to imports.

United States Customs Service

A former agency of the U.S. Government responsible for keeping illegal substances out of the United States as well as collecting tariffs and other import duties. The Customs Service was responsible for, among other things, enforcing the trade embargo on Cuba and trade agreements between the U.S. and other countries. In 2003, the Customs Service combined with Immigration and Naturalization Services to form Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
