Seguin

(səgēn`), city (1990 pop. 18,853), seat of Guadalupe co., S central Tex., on the Guadalupe River; inc. 1853. Among its many industrial products are textiles, construction materials, plastic products, steel, and processed foods. The city was founded (1831) by members of the Texas RangersTexas Rangers,
mounted fighting force organized (1835) during the Texas Revolution. During the republic they became established as the guardians of the Texas frontier, particularly against Native Americans. The Texas Rangers at first consisted of three companies of 25 men each.

1806–90, Texas revolutionary and politician, b. San Antonio. He was elected alderman (1829) and mayor (1833) of San Antonio, then formed a militia (1835) to aid the Mexican governor of Texas against President Santa Anna.
