a lake in the Karelian ASSR. Segozero has an average depth of 6.2 m and a maximum depth of 97 m. The water volume is 17.8 cu km. The shoreline is indented. Segozero is fed by snow and rain. The water level may vary annually by as much as 2.4 m. The lake freezes in December, and the ice breaks up in May. The Segezha River flows out of the lake, draining into Vygozero. Segozero was turned into a reservoir after a hydroelectric power plant was built on the Segezha River and raised the lake’s water level; its area was increased to 906 sq km, and its water volume to 21.5 cu km.
