(communications, company)(PTT) One of the many nationalbodies responsible for providing communications services in aparticular country. Traditionally, PTTs had monopolies intheir respective countries. This monopoly was first broken inthe USA, with the UK joining somewhat later. Currently themarkets are being deregulated in Europe as well as other partsof the world.

Well-known PTTs include MCI, AT&T, and British Telecom.
