Parali

(Greek, literally “the inhabitants of the sea coast”), one of the three political groupings in Attica in the sixth century B.C., along with the Diacrii and the Pedieis.

The Parali inhabited the southern part of Attica, Paralia, just as the Diacrii inhabited Diacria, and the Pedieis, Pedion. They were associated with particular aristocratic clans in political struggles. The protectors, or patrons, of the Parali were the Alcmeonids. According to another hypothesis widely held by historiographers, the Parali were a “moderate party” of the commercial and artisan class.
