paraganglion

[par″ah-gang´gle-on] (pl. paragan´glia) a collection of chromaffin cells, derived from neural ectoderm, occurring outside of the adrenal medulla, most commonly near the sympathetic ganglia and in relation to the aorta and its branches. Most, if not all, of the paraganglia secrete epinephrine or norepinephrine.
