Threshold Density

the minimum darkening above the level of photographic fogging that is discernible on an exposed and developed photosensitive emulsion (photographic film or paper or cinematographic film). The threshold density is that point on the initial segment of the characteristic curve of the photographic material where the rate of change approaches zero.
