(trēänôN`), two small châteaux in the park of VersaillesVersailles, city (1990 pop. 91,029), capital of Yvelines dept., N central France. It was an insignificant rural hamlet when Louis XIII constructed a small retreat there in 1623.

The Petit Trianon was built in 1762 by J. A. Gabriel for Louis XV. It was a favorite residence of Marie Antoinette and of the Empress Eugénie.
