The Watts Towers consist of three steel-framed, freeform towers, constructed of concrete-covered reinforcing rods encrusted with inlaid tile, shells, and fragments of broken bottles. At several points in their lifetime, the Towers were threatened by building officials who tried to remove the towers, on the grounds of structural safety, but were unable to pull them down. |
