Umbrians
Umbrians
members of the ancient Italic tribes belonging to the Osco-Umbrian language group of the northern and central regions of Italy. Scholars believe that the Umbrians belonged to the Villanovan culture. In the fourth and third centuries B.C., the Umbrians, who had been displaced by the Gauls, settled in the region in central Italy that became know as Umbria. The Umbrians were subjugated by the Romans in the third and second centuries B.C. and were latinized by the first century A.D.
