rococo revivalA European and American middle-class reenactment of rococo, beginning only 60 years after its eclipse, but this often symmetrical version offered the added comfort of coil-sprung, button-backed upholstery, in new French seating forms. It dominated 1840s–70s US fashion despite other revivals.
