Subcortical Structures of the Brain
Subcortical Structures of the Brain
a group of brain structures situated between the cerebral cortex and the medulla oblongata. They participate in all behavioral reactions of man and animals.
Anatomically, the subcortical structures include the optic thalamus, hypothalamus, limbic system, corpora quadrigemina, globus pallidus, and other basal nerve ganglia. Functionally, they include the reticular formation of the brainstem and thalamus.
