Papirovka

Papirovka

(also Alebastrovoe), a summer variety of apple. The medium-sized apple weighs between 150 and 170 g and is usually rounded-conical. It is whitish or pale yellow and has a juicy, pleasant tasting, white pulp. Papirovka apples ripen in July in the southern USSR and in August in northern fruit-growing regions. They do not survive transport well, nor do they keep more than two weeks. The apples are eaten fresh, canned, or processed into juice and wine. The medium-sized tree is winter-hardy and quite resistant to disease. Fruiting begins in the fourth or fifth year. The yield is 150–200 kg per tree. The Papirovka apple is cultivated in the RSFSR, Ukrainian SSR, Moldavian SSR, Byelorussian SSR, Kirghiz SSR, Tadzhik SSR, Azerbaijan SSR, Armenian SSR, and Latvian SSR.
