seek time[′sēk ‚tīm] (computer science) The time required for the access mechanism of a random-access storage device to be properly positioned. seek time (storage)The time it takes for a disk drive to move itshead(s) from one track to another. The seek time depends onthe power of the servo, the mass of the heads, the number oftracks traversed and the time taken to position the heads overthe target track accurately enough to start data transfer.
