A video map superimposed on an ATC radar screen.An electronically displayed map on the radar display that may depict data such as airports, heliports, runway centerline extensions, hospital emergency landing areas, NAVAIDs (navigational aids) and fixes, reporting points, airway/route centerlines, boundaries, hand-off points, special-use tracks, obstructions, prominent geographic features, map alignment indicators, range accuracy marks, minimum vectoring altitudes, etc. This serves the important function of providing the controller with a permanent reference. The required information for preparation of a video map is usually derived from a fine-grain photo plate scanned in synchronization with the rotation of a radar antenna or from computer memory.
