papagayo papagayo[‚pä·pə′gī·yō] (meteorology) A violent, northeasterly fall wind on the Pacific coast of Nicaragua and Guatemala; it consists of the cold air mass of a norte which has overridden the mountains of Central America and, being a descending wind, it brings fine, clear weather. papagayoA very strong, sometimes violent, northeast wind blowing during the colder months in the Gulf of Papagayo on the northwest coast of Costa Rica, as well as in adjacent Pacific coastal waters. |
