a lake on the Kola Peninsula, in Murmansk Oblast, RSFSR. Situated between Khibiny on the west and Lovozerskie Tundry on the east, Umbozero has an area of 422 sq km. Its mean depth is 15 m, and its maximum depth is 115 m. Several small streams empty into the lake. High water occurs in July, and low water in May. The water level varies by 1.2 m. The lake freezes over between late October and December; the ice breaks up in late May or in June. The Umba River flows out of Umbozero. Fish, including trout, loach, and cisco, are caught in the lake.
