Pao-Huang Hui

Pao-Huang Hui

“Protect the Emperor Society,” a Chinese constitutional-monarchist party of landowners and bourgeoisie, 1899 to 1908.

Pao-huang hui was founded by K’ang Yu-wei, Liang Ch’i-ch’ao, and others in Japan after the defeat of the 1898 reform movement in China. Pao-huang hui pursued the goals of restoring the power of Emperor Tsai T’ien and, with his help, carrying out a moderate bourgeois reform in China and averting the revolutionary overthrow of the Manchu dynasty.
